The Force has been awakened, and it’s brought with it our first look at the characters that will populate that galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Episode VII.
In honor of International Star Wars Day — otherwise known as May the Fourth — Vanity Fair unveiled the stormtroopers, X-wing pilots, and Jedi Masters who are gracing the cover of their June issue before they hit movie screens everywhere. In addition to proving that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is a pinup-worthy dreamboat at any age, the photos also offer fans a first look at some of the new characters who will be taking over the franchise from Han, Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher).
Accompanying Ford on the cover are newcomers Daisy Ridley, who will play the series’ newest heroine, Rey, and John Boyega, who will soon known worldwide as the mysterious Finn. And if you’re hoping to see more of Oscar Isaac’s smooth, swoon-worthy pilot Poe Dameron, well, he gets a full spread to himself that will look just as handsome decorating your laptop background (or your bedroom walls, if you’re old-school).
“Whatever,” we hear you thinking, “we’ve met those guys already. Is there anything new this time around?” Boy, is there.
Interested in meeting our newest villain, the person who will terrorize our heroes with his three-pronged lightsaber? Well, allow us to introduce you to Kylo Ren, as portrayed by Adam Driver. How about Gwendoline Christie’s super-cool Stormtrooper? Her name is Captain Phasma, thank you very much, and she’s got brand new look as well.
As for international sweetheart Lupita Nyong’o? Let’s just say you should take a good look at her now, as you probably won’t recognize her in the movie.
